Society’s Stereotypes

For the past 2 days we have watched movies about the stereotypes used to portray men and women in media and in life. In the videos the 2 host or speakers talked about how the media portrays young men and women on how they should act.
In the first video on Monday the female speaker said how the media and society think women are just sexual objects. This is wrong because I believe women are more precious and important than just for sexual purposes. If it were not for women we wouldn’t have the so called “men” we have now in the world. Women should be showed more respect than to just portray them as strippers and everything. Women are people just like everybody else. They are mothers, sisters, and much more. It seems that the media doesn’t see past that, which is wrong. Just because SEX SELLS doesn’t mean you should affect the youth of the world.
In the second video on Wednesday the male speaker said how the media and society think men are brutes and violent. He showed how men aren’t automatically bad but are shaped to be violent brute by the media and society. Part of the reason I think men are violent because they are taught at a young age to be strong. I believe they are teaching children the wrong thing. Strong isn’t being able to be someone. It is to be able to with stand failure or hardships. These are not the messages that the media should be sending children and young adults.
In conclusion I think that the media should rest the laws of sex and violence sales.
